Iconic rap duo Run the Jewels ended 2020 with another new track, No Save Point, not off this year’s excellent RTJ4, but from the year’s hottest holiday game, Cyberpunk 2077. Killer Mike and El-P created a song that blended their strong lyrics with the feel of a dystopian, late-capitalist entropy. Cyberpunk 2077 was considered the most anticipated game of the past few years. The title features several big name stars, including Keanu Reeves, who plays the frontman of a legendary punk group that Refused wrote an album’s worth of material.
Run The Jewels premiered their futuristic video for the track during the Adult Swim Festival. The duo spit their rhymes from the dystopian neon world presented in the much-anticipated video game, with many of Cyberpunk 2077’s characters making appearances. Run The Jewels, naturally, were a great fit for the dystopian cyberpunk adventure.
“I grew up on all of those sorta dystopian, sci-fi, cyberpunk films, comics, novels. It was really easy for me to get into the mind state for this,” El-P said. “This is what happens when our fucked up shit ages. I love the idea the the future is the future, but it’s also old. The future’s kinda broken down, but at the same time we’re creating new technology. The things that we did have in our grasp, like morality and society, are breaking down and turning into compost.”
Killer Mike added, “I like shooting shit, and in video games you can do that and not got to jail, so . . .”
Needless to say, Run The Jewels loved being a part of Cyberpunk 2077 and creating a track to deepen fans’ experience.
