The wait was finally over! Legends of Runeterra, the online strategy card battler based on the lore of one of the most popular games ever created, League of Legends, left its early access status and fully launched to critical acclaim. The game compels players to use their skill, creativity, and cleverness to win strategic card battles and rise through the summoners’ ranks. Players’ level of success is determined by how they choose their champions, combine their abilities, and create their own style of play. League of Legends and deck building fans downloaded the title in record numbers.
To celebrate the launch of the Legends of Runeterra we helped bring the game to life with a series of art pieces. Fifteen hand-picked artists meticulously crafted imagery that showed off the personalities of each character. Instead of a typical artist’s canvas, the art was printed or painted onto hand carved wood. Artists included Craig Drake, David Tevenal, Donna Adi, and Yuko Shimizu.
League of Legends, featuring over a hundred unique and diverse characters, has always had a strong art community. Its fanbase has embraced Legends of Runeterra as well, with each in-game digital card’s art being admired for its design and story elements. After establishing key influencers within the Legends of Runeterra community we sent each one a first print to a different piece of art. They returned the gift’s favor by featuring the art on their media channels and by displaying them in their content.
